About Me

In a nutshell: I'm a 7th generation Floridian who has found her way to sweet South Carolina!

I grew up in a small town in South Florida where there are more cows than people. I was lucky enough to grow up around Florida agriculture: beef cattle, dairy farms, and delicious citrus! I went to the University of Florida for undergrad and graduate school and received my BS and Master's in Advertising. After working in an advertising agency for 2 1/2 years, I was part of an in-house marketing team for about 1 1/2 years, and now I work in economic development.
In 2007, I met my adorable husband Alex, a South Carolina boy. We were long distance for 2 years until I moved up to South Carolina after completing grad school. I found my way to Greenville, SC for work and absolutely loved living in this perfectly charming, friendly and beautiful Southern city for nearly 4 years.

In October 2010, Alex popped the question! We soon began planning our wedding, which we decide to have in Greenville, since that is where we planned to make our life together and be for a long time. The weekend we got engaged, we went house shopping and discovered the neighborhood where we decided to build our home! It was completed in March 2011, so I lived there with my precious 4-pound poodle/chihuahua, Penny, until the wedding that summer.

We got married on July 9, 2011 and couldn't have asked for a more perfect wedding day and start to our forever! We had the classic wedding I had always dreamed of, and the fun party we both wanted. The day was spent with about 225 guests from Florida, South Carolina, and beyond.

In November 2011, we decided it was time to add to our family of 3: we got Ellie, our golden retriever. She is a hilarious, sweet and beautiful addition to our house. Penny and Ellie are like a little comedy team and always make us laugh and smile! And they're pretty cute, too.

We loved our life in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, but in May 2013, Alex got a great opportunity to be a golf coach in the SEC. So, we sold our first home, packed up, moved our stuff and bought our second home just down I-26...in Columbia, South Carolina.

We enjoy traveling, going to Gator and Gamecock football games, treating ourselves to nice dinners out, and enjoying all that our state offers: mountains, beaches, and lots of good restaurants.

I started this blog as a New Year's resolution in 2012: I used to journal my thoughts and everyday musings, but had just stopped recording everyday things in life. I wanted to remember the random, the trivial, the momentous, and the important: all the things that make up a young marriage and a life together. I named it "Young & Southern" because that's us! We won't always be young, but we'll still be young at heart. And Southern? Oh yes: it's who we are.
